Douglas R. Brockbank
Our approaches have been shaped by Doug's 40-year career helping leaders and organizations.
Doug’s first 12 years saw immersion in the disciplines of execution. He installed performance improvement systems in dozens of companies in the manufacturing, energy and service industries. This provided a track record of influencing leaders at all levels to better execute in operational environments. He refined methods to help leaders engage their teams and dramatically improve KPIs.
While partnered with Ken Blanchard shortly after publication of The One Minute Manager, Doug also spent several years as a keynote and motivational speaker, focused on implementing the performance systems outlined in Blanchard's second book, Putting The One Minute Manager To Work. Franklin Covey’s recent publication of The 4 Disciplines of Execution captures this approach in detail.
Doug’s next 10 years increased his focus on implementing talent management and employee engagement tools. These tools were embedded in one of the best selling professional development programs in the history of the industry. Doug was a Principal at BlessingWhite in the 90s, the firm that pioneered the approach summarized in this video. We can therefore provide custom tools--based on proven approaches--to help your employees take more responsibility for their own engagement, career, and performance.
In the late 90's, Doug added a specialization of Leadership Presence and Communication, delivering dozens of workshops and coaching senior leaders to help them better inspire commitment to change. Also during this period, Doug did extensive research in complexity science and systems thinking, uncovering practical applications to organizational effectiveness and leadership. This research still informs his approach to managing change, lateral leadership, bridging silos, decision making / problem solving, influence, customer centricity, innovation, and paradox management.
Over the past 15 years, the focus of Doug's work has been the design and facilitation of executive leadership initiatives, team effectiveness, and individual executive coaching. He often partners with Dr. Carole France to bring their combined expertise to leaders worldwide. They apply cutting-edge principles and tools for self awareness and behavior change to a lifetime of insight into organizational and business challenges. They have also partnered with industry leaders in Action Learning, Business Simulations, High Performance Conversations, Actors / Improv Specialists and The Corporate Athlete (for more information, see “Tools and Areas of Expertise”).
Doug received two Bachelors degrees from the University of California, and a Masters in Organizational Behavior. Doug’s approach to performance improvement and development is also shaped by his athletic pursuits. He was an NCAA All-American, twice completed the Ironman in Hawaii, and has most recently broken National and World records in Masters Swimming. He also practices crossfit and yoga to complement his athletic training.
